I have to get something out. I am sick and tired of this year’s election. I cannot wait for it to be over and done with. I cannot stand to hear one.more.person complain about who might become president.
There are several reasons why the world looks down upon Americans but even I am disappointed with our nation right now. My first election was 2004 and because I was raised a Republican I voted for Bush. Of course I heard complaints here and there but people got over it fairly quickly and everyone I knew was okay with Bush being our president. After all, there’s a reason he won. And I will take the time now to say “shut up” with the Florida re-count. We “rich Republicans” had nothing to do with that. Seriously, think about it. How is anyone to know who was initially in the lead in Florida? Continuing on: It all changed when 9/11 happened. For the first several months people were praising Bush for standing up to the attackers but as the war drug on everyone wanted the soldiers home. I understand that. I was and am not happy about how long this war is taking and I know that Bush isn’t handling it like he should be but have you ever talked to a soldier about it? I have three in my extended family and several more soldiers as friends. They all say the same thing: They joined the military for a reason and if this is what it takes to keep our freedom and to keep America safe they are happy to do it. You won’t hear them whining to come home. Sure they miss their loved ones but they believe in the cause.
Now that the 2008 election is heating up and people are counting down the days I grow more and more annoyed. Since my first election I have grown up and I will no longer voting for someone because my parents voted for them. I decided a while back that I was going to vote for the person and not their party. I have been a political junky and have watched every debate. I know what the candidates stand for and I don’t agree completely with either one. As you have probably gathered, I am planning on voting for McCain because I find myself agreeing with him more than Obama but you won’t hear me claim that I’ll move to Canada if Obama wins. This seems to be a popular saying lately. Those voting for Obama say the same in regards to McCain winning. I know that these people aren’t really going to move if their candidate doesn’t win but just saying that repulses me. What kind of country would we be if that’s all it would take to make us turn our backs on our nation? To joke about it is childish and shows major lack of respect.
If Obama wins, and I’m well aware that he probably will, I will look forward to this “change” he talks so much about and I will support him fully even though I didn’t vote for him. He would be our president and that’s all that matters. Whoever wins will be the President of the United States and if you respect that office you should respect the person be you a Democrat or a Republican. In conclusion: Country First!
